handmade birthday club, take one…
in this previous post, i told all about how i signed up for a fun new club. the first birthday girl/gift recipient was lisa.
after looking at her likes, preferences, and inspirational mosiac, i decided to go with this color scheme that she posted…light gray, robin’s egg, teal, black cherry, wine, and chartreuse. (yes i just named those all on my own, lol.)
and after poking around her pinterest boards for a bit, i discovered that she likes the “orion” pattern. with these two things in mind, i had all i needed to get started on a mini quilt.
here is the finished product, i am pretty pleased with how it turned out! those half square triangles were a pain in my you know what, but it was all worth it in the end, because i love the final result.
i wanted to do more with the back too, but again, was running out of time. i really like the cute, simple gray though, and i think it ties in quite nicely with the front. you can also tell that i didn’t get too crazy with the quilting. nice and easy.
dog eared a corner so you could see a glimpse…
here’s a close up, because i wanted to try to show off the first ever aurifil thread i’ve used. it was a green gradient that was a gift, and i thought it went perfectly with this piece! the only thing i didn’t like about it’s silkiness, is that every time i used the automatic thread cutter on my machine, the thread slipped out and i had to rethread the needle EVERY time before starting. got very annoying after awhile!
the camera on my new phone is way better than the camera on my ipod lol. yay me! and the green really POPS in this pic. love it! it was hard to give away 😉
for extra birthday goodies, i got her a gluten free milk chocolate bar, some mustache washi tape, some grid paper post its for easy quilt block designing, some birthday cake flavored bubble gum, and a cute hedgehog card.
i knew the package arrived safely in canada when i got this twitter notification:
and when i checked this morning, lisa’s instagram pic of my package already had almost 40 likes 🙂 🙂
so glad she liked it and that it arrived safely.
i still stink at binding, but i am getting better. and i didn’t have a simple pucker on the back of this mini quilt, so that makes me super happy! it ended up being a little less than 25 inches square.
jeni’s birthday is up next, and i already have her presie in the works, but can’t post about it yet. stay tuned!
